It was a German philosopher, Alexander Gottieb Baumgarten who in 1735 introduced the term, Aesthetics though the nature of beauty had earlier been studied. Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy that deals with the essence and perception of the beautiful (and the ugly) as opposed to the moral and the useful.
